Core Values

Note: For your advancement test, you must define honor, courage, and commitment in YOUR OWN WORDS. Do not repeat the definitions written below. They only serve to give you an idea and to help you think of you own definitions.

Honor:

I AM ACCOUNTABLE FOR MY PERSONAL BEHAVIOR. I WILL BE MINDFUL OF THE PRIVILEGE I HAVE TO SERVE MY FELLOW NJROTC CADETS AND CLASSMATES.

Accordingly, I will:

- Conduct myself in the highest ethical manner in all relationships

- Be honest and truthful when dealing with others

- Encourage good ideas and deliver bad news when necessary

- Abide by an uncompromised code of integrity, taking responsibility for my actions

- Fulfill my legal and ethical responsibilities twenty-four hours a day


Courage:

COURAGE IS THE VALUE THAT GIVES ME THE MORAL AND MENTAL STRENGTH TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT, WITH CONFIDENCE AND RESOLUTION, EVEN IN THE FACE OF TEMPTATION OR PERSONAL ADVERSITY.

Accordingly, I will:

- Have the courage to meet the demands of my NJROTC unit

- Make decisions in the best interests of the unit and the school

- Meet these challenges while adhering to a high standard of personal conduct and decency

- Be loyal to my NJROTC unit and my fellow cadets and classmates

 

Commitment:

THE DAY-TO-DAY DUTY OF EVERY MAN AND WOMAN IN THE NJROTC PROGRAM IS TO JOIN TOGETHER AS A TEAM TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF OUR UNIT, OUR FELLOW CADETS AND CLASSMATES, AND OURSELVES.

Accordingly, I will:

- Demand respect up and down the chain of command

- Care for the safety, professional, personal, and spiritual well-being of others

- Show respect toward all individuals without regard to race, religion, or gender

- Be committed to positive change and constant improvement

- Exhibit the highest degree of moral character, technical excellence, quality, and competence
